Name: John W. Cummins (1954 - 1989)


Historical Note: John W. Cummins was a professor of English at Chatham College from 1954-1985.  His research focused primarily on 18th and 19th century literature.  At Chatham, Cummins served as an advisor on the Minor Bird, participated in theater productions, and became the chairperson of the English Department and the Buhl Professor of English in 1987.  After retiring from teaching, Cummins held the position of archival project director until his final retirement in 1993.  He passed away in 2001.
